Description
Earlier this year I curated an exhibition in Guernsey called Diversion and on the last day prep for the exhibition I made 2 spray painted street signs which promptly sold on the night.
The stencil was cut from a much larger design I had previously sprayed on a wall under the name of Machine Learning but in Guernsey I realised that this would also work really well with the diversion sign as a background.
Returning to Belfast I knew that I wanted to make a few more of these but sourcing the sign and even getting around to finding the time to cut a stencil took way longer that I thought it would.
And then I was procrastinating… I had a million other things to do and instead of doing them I spent a bit of time with cardboard and stanley and paint and a street sign and generally had a lovely time not doing the things that I was supposed to be doing. For a minute there I lost myself.
Sometimes a diversion is a good as a rest.
This piece is a multi layered stencil with a lot of under painting and general spray painting onto a 3mm plastic yellow diversion sign with slightly raised vinyl arrow and lettering.
Diversion measure 59.5 x 44.5 cm and it is an edition of 2. As each is hand painted and sprayed they are both unique and different pieces. This piece also comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Diversion is posted with Royal Mail Tracked-48 which is a little more expensive but it is a fast service and it saves any hassle with post going missing on its way to your door.
